Herzberg am Harz lies on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains and borders on the Harz National Park. The city is dominated by the 16th century Welfen Castle, where the “Herzberg Castle Concerts” take place annually from April to January. Numerous hiking trails in the national park offer active recreation. Nearby are tourist attractions such as the Rhume Spring and the Unicorn Cave in Scharzfeld, one of the oldest dolomite caves in Europe.
