The Lumière cinema is supported by the Göttingen Film and Cinema Initiative. (FKI) and sees itself as an alternative to commercial cinema. It shows sophisticated and artistically outstanding films and film series, often in cooperation with numerous cultural institutions and initiatives in Göttingen. Discussions with filmmakers are an integral part of the programme, as are the Göttingen Comedy Company’s monthly impromptu show and puppet theatre performances.
Highlights of the programme include the Silent Film Festival in spring, where cinema classics return to the screen, the Children’s Film Festival in October and the European Film Festival in November with current films in many languages from all over Europe. The Lumière Cinema also organises the Open Air Cinema at the Brauweg outdoor swimming pool every year. Photo credits: Film- und Kinoinitiative Göttingen e.V. (FKI)
